UMaine's $82 million factory will try to print homes at production scale
The 50,000-square-foot mass timber building in Orono houses a large polymer 3D printer and will develop bio-based building materials, ENR reports. A pilot with the nonprofit Penquis plans to print up to nine 600-square-foot homes around Bangor over three years. Consigli is construction manager.
Why it matters: Most printed homes so far are one-off demos. The Penquis homes could produce real cost, schedule and code data for repeatable production.
